Until a year ago, we had to export a large part of the non-lead portable batteries collected from the market for treatment. Starting in 2024, we are pleased to have the possibility of closing the recycling loop right here in Romania. We found in ECOWES a reliable partner, who invested with passion and professionalism in the Jilava plant, successfully developing— to high-quality standards — a treatment facility for alkaline batteries and another one for Li-ion batteries, through which the legal targets imposed by the European Union are achieved.

Lithium-ion batteries ensure part of our everyday comfort, and in the field of mobility they are increasingly present in scooters, mopeds, electric cars, and industrial applications.

I was very pleased to visit a lithium-ion battery processing facility, still at the beginning of its journey, which will certainly become an important player in the field of urban mining for the recovery of critical raw materials.
I saw how batteries from electric vehicles are discharged, dismantled, and their cells shredded and separated. Processing these batteries is not simple and requires rigorous fire risk management.
